Purpose:
Believing that relationships are the foundation of a meaningful life, IDAMFT exists to ensure that highly skilled Marriage and Family Therapists support and enrich the lives of Idaho's residents.
Mission:
Marriage and Family Therapy will be seen as an essential profession in the treatment of mental health problems in Idaho by the year 2010.
What is IDAMFT?
The Idaho Association of Marriage and Family Therapists is the Idaho division of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. IDAMFT was formally organized in 1996, and promotes the professional interests of our members throughout the state. In 2001, IDAMFT was successful in securing licensures for our members. At the present time IDAMFT is actively seeking reimbursement for MFT's providing mental health services from third party payers.
IDAMFT is a professional organization comprised of approximately 90 highly trained practitioners. Our members meet rigorous standards for education and are held to the highest ethical standards of the profession. Several categories of membership exist within the organization. Clinical members have met the highest standards of the profession. Associate and Student memberships are available for therapists in training for clinical practice.
- When Idahoans enter a MFTs office, they will find a clinician who believes that when it comes to treating individuals, couples and families, “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”. They will find a clinician who is curious, respectful and kind regarding the individual but who also recognizes the powerful influence of the family, marriage, and other relationships on that individual.
- In addition, Marriage and Family Therapists believe that when personal relationships suffer so does personal performance in all areas of life.
- The result of treatment from this perspective is increased personal competence, enhanced family and other interpersonal relationships, and improved communities for the State of Idaho.
